Daily writing prompt
What skills or lessons have you learned recently?

Ironically, I’ve learnt how to write.

I was a sucky English student, well to be fair I was just a sucky student in general, I never went to class and when I did I just did NOT care about anything. But English was always extra difficult for me.

In later years it’s become apparent I do have mild dyslexia, if there is such a thing and words get jumbled up in my head all the time. Grammar is also a huge weak point for me. I either over use it or it’s not there at all and if you were to read my essays out loud you’d talk with no space to pause for a breath until you died.

I also struggle a lot with reading, there are time where I re read a sentence over 4-5 times to be able to comprehend what it’s trying to say and how the sentence correlates to the rest of the paragraph. Thankfully, in 2024, I have access to a wide variety of spell check and auto correct, so I sound less dumb than what I did when I was in high school. However, I don’t proof read anything I post and I still do struggle with reading books.

So I decided to start blogging, because the fastest way to learn a new skill is to dive into the deep end and give yourself extreme anxiety of public failure, apparently.

As time as gone on and the months have ticked by writing blogs consistently, also the addition of my Threads account blowing to 2.2 million viewers a month, I have improved on my spelling and grammar. My reading skills, don’t worry they’re still absolute trash and for the moment my brain doesn’t seem to care. I have finished FIVE books this year though, absolutely wild considering I had to re read every paragraph three times to understand what the author was trying to tell me. But I did it.

Do more scary shit.

You’ll improve faster.
