Daily writing prompt
If you could permanently ban a word from general usage, which one would it be? Why?

“Sorry.”

Honestly, the word sorry is so falsely overused and under valued.

When someone says sorry to you enough times, without a change in behaviour, the word looses all meaning. Sorry is not a tool to make another person shut up about being upset because you don’t like what they’re upset about. It’s also not a gaslighting weapon to use against another person.

The word sorry should be reserved for when people are genuine and honest. Anything else is a lie.

I will die on this hill.

I said this elsewhere, but one time after someone had said “Sorry” to a friend of mine over something, he just looked at them and said very calmly “Don’t be sorry, be different.” He was a wise fellow, that one.

If you’re genuinely sorry, you will change your behaviour.

      It’s so valid!

Indeed. And to say the other party was bewildered by his reply is an understatement. Totally went over her head 😄
